Owner Pete Messina

Laurel Run Golf Course

The above photograph was taken in 1957 while Pete Messina was stationed at Ashiya AFB in Japan. We had an excellent golf team. We won just about every match in the Far East. Pete Messina had such a good life in the US Air Force that it was difficult for him to leave. He returned to his home near Philadelphia but remained in the USAF reserves for another 8 years. Instead of a career in the Air Force or professional golf, Pete Messina became a law enforcement officer rising to the rank of Police Chief. Pete graduated from West State University and attended Temple University School of Law for two years in the expectation of becoming a lawyer, however, law enforcement was his first love, and law school ended.

After more than 40 years in law enforcement, Pete Messina finally retired and purchased Laurel Run Golf Course in September of 2004. It was his dream-come-true.

Pete started playing golf when he was ten years old. He caddied and shagged balls for Scottish Pro Jock MacKenzie at the Sandy Run Country Club near Philadelphia. Pete also worked in the pro shop cleaning and repairing golf clubs, and assisting the pro in giving lessons to beginners.

After graduating from high school, Pete joined the Air Force and played on the various Air Force Base golf teams whereever he was stationed. That is where he realized that there were so many golfers much more skilled at the game than he which caused him to forget the idea of becoming a professional tour player. He made the team, but it was humbling and realized that the competition was, at times, intimidating.

While on the police force, Pete participated in every police tournament available and played on his pass days. Pete loved being a cop almost as much as he loved golf.

Now that Pete is retired from law enforcement, his life's dream has become a reality. Pete is improving Laurel Run Golf Course in every way his budget will allow. He is redesigning the holes to make them more challenging but friendlier.

Come out and play a round of golf at Laurel Run. We are positive that you will enjoy every shot on every hole.

Take advantage of Pete's love of golf and get yourself a discount while playing a healthful, fun sport. Pete will even give you free golf tips, but only if you ask.

The difference between the law and golf is that the law is political and flexible; golf is not. Your score is based on your skill and possibly some luck. What you score is what you get.
